Yesterday in the late afternoon Alyssa developed a fever in addition to being very fatigued and generally not feeling well. I spoke with her oncologist and we were directed to the ER of HUP. That was an experience in itself!!!. The medical and nursing staff were wonderful once we were able to be evaluated. Finally at 4 am we were taken to a room to be admitted. Alyssas blood counts have plummeted as expected. She was dehydrated as well. She received 3 liters of IV fluids, is on 3 different IV antibiotics , received a transfusion of 2 units packed re blood cells and continues with neupogen injections. Alyssa has a lot of sinus pain, pressure, very sore throat and a cough. So, she will remain in the hospital until her white blood cells climb to an acceptable level and things improve. All of this in not unexpected, just another bump in the road. The attending physician was happy she made it to day 13 of consolidation chemo to have issues.
