Yesterday morning I was on my way to work listening to NPR while they were interviewing the front man of the band Wearethewillows I fell in love with this album. Words from the written letters of a soldier. Before he left for war, he proposed to his girlfriend in hopes shed say yes. She declined the offer, and so he constantly explained his experiences across the oceans. The years past, & his love grew stronger, so when he finally came home, they married, and started a family. The kind of love you dream of. The kind you forgot existed. These songs are so meaningful & honest. Anyone who has had someone in the military can identify with at a least one of these songs. The band has recently recorded their second full-length album, Picture [Portrait], based off of 350 letters written by Peter’s grandfather to his grandmother while he was stationed in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. Their correspondence inspired Peter to explore themes of family, separation, life, death, and identity in a time of national and personal crisis. The songs communicate complex ideas delivered with pop-sensible charm. His grandmother loves this album. You just might too. youtu.be/bwyQF52E2QU
