Yesterday morning as I was walking up 7th Ave. I noticed a pigeon sitting on the sidewalk close to a subway entrance. The bird was in an area where it would get kicked or stepped on definitely as people here in New York simply rush on by not paying much attention. I stopped to see was something wrong with the bird. It either was not feeling well or was just having a bad day because I was able to sit down behind it and pet it for a few minutes. Many people caught notice to what I was doing but rushed on about their way. I picked the bird up from the sidewalk and carried it a few blocks away and a good way into Central Park then perched it up into a tree where it would be off the ground and away from most predators. I believe my moving the bird off of the sidewalk and to a much less traveled area where it could possibly recover was the right thing to do. I have a video of me sitting on the sidewalk behind the bird petting it that I will be uploading later.
