Yesterday morning before church- I received news that my Grandfather, Joseph Jordan was swallowed up into eternal life. He was a very good man, a model husband (who selflessly serve his paralyzed [on entire left side of body] wife after a stroke in 1994) who was married for 67 years, an understanding and loving father with my dad, and a very fun grandfather. He was a decorated WW2 Marine hero with the battle scars and the crazy battle stories to prove it. He had 2 purple hearts and another medal (that I do not exactly remember so I dont want to misquote what it was) for bravery. I remember as a kid going to my grandparents house in Bastrop, LA- Bayou Bartholomew was literally his back yard. He introduced me to cane pole fishing and would take me out in the boat everyday to fish, he built a tire swing and a zip line for me and my brother. Steak and potatoes were his favorite meal and he told me once he could eat a steak every day for dinner and not get tired of it. His favorite restaurants were always cafeteria style like the Picadilly. He also is the inventor of the Peanut Butter & Bacon Sandwiches (sounds disgusting... but quite delicious). All he EVER wore was Dickies short sleeve coveralls. My one big regret is not spending more time with him while I had it to spend. He suffered from alzheimers and dementia for the last few years. I am relieved to know he is in a better place now, where there is no suffering, no tears or pain, and he is in the right state of mind and health..... and probably still in his Dickies....
