Yesterday, my niece Ryleigh, had her 8th Grade Recognition. She was showered with honors including Top 10 in her class, Presidential Excellence in Academics and the Judy Maker PE Award. All of which make us all so incredibly proud of the student/athlete that she has become, BUT the one that was most special of all was the Ray Hawkins Memorial Award. She told me this last and it was a good thing. I was overcome with pride, memories of the incredible man/teacher Ray Hawkins was, and felt blessed all in one to have her honored in this way and know the meaning behind it. All of you who were lucky enough to have Ray Hawkins as a teacher, friend or to have known him understand what I mean ... and Steve Olsen, Mr. Hawkins really should have been President!!!!
