Yesterday on my flight, I had a young man who wept silently. As I was helping to break down the cart, I was standing by him. I leaned down by his side and asked if everything was okay. He looked up with tears streaming down his cheeks and started to tell his story. He was from Hamburg Germany and had been a foreign exchange student a few years back in Caldwell Idaho. He fell in love with a local girl. He was a student in college now back home in Germany. He was just leaving Boise after being with his love for seven weeks. While there, his loves mom passed away from cancer and a High school friend from Caldwell was killed in a car crash. His tears were a mix of all those emotions, but his heart was breaking to leave behind his girl. He said they would be reunited in four months at Christmas time. I told him the story of my girl and her boy Steven Robertson. I said, you got this! These two have been apart first, from Bailey going off to school, then Steven for a two year mission. Now Bailey being off on an eighteen month one. His tears stopped and we talked more about his plans. After we arrived in Seattle he went his separate way. While cleaning the plane the other flight attendant handed me some garbage to throw away. As I felt the papers that were to be discarded I noticed something solid amongst the papers. A passport! That young man had left his itinerary and passport on board! Luckily I had an hour break and quickly took it inside. Racing to find this young man in a busy airport, I said a silent prayer that I would not only find him but to recognize his face. I had to pray twice, as the place was packed and his flight was going out of a different terminal. But lo and behold, as my prayer was finished, he walked right in front of me heading away from his destination. I ran up to him and told him that I prayed that I would find you while handing him his passport. He stopped his phone call thanked me and all was well. I was then concerned as I was leaving that he may not know where the south satellite was so I went back to find him. He turned to me before I could speak and gave me the biggest bear hug ever, in his German accent thanking me! Sometimes I feel that I dont do enough good in the world, but yesterday that young man made me feel like even a little thing can be big to another.
