Yesterday on the west side of Chicago, a stretch of Cicero avenue was renamed “Mandella Road” in honor of the late President Nelson Mandella. Wherein I appreciate our own hardworking state representative LaShawn Ford for sponsoring the legislation, it gives great honor and homage to an iconic figure. The one thing that bothered me was seeing all of the local, county, state and federal politicians parading and sharading in our neighborhood, as if they had really done something of significance for a hurting community that’s trying to fight back. Even State house president, Mr. Mike Madigan was there, the poster boy of plantation politics. Seeing him in our community, knowing that he has fought every issue that could build our infrastructure was almost laughable! These politicians kill me being so willing to rally around symbolic issues but never willing to support or put resources behind issues of real substance.
