Yesterday, the 30th, we went to see my grandson, Jason, in the spring production of Trumbull, CT High School. They performed the musical, RENT. Thered been some controversy about this production when the new principal cancelled it because he felt it to be too mature a subject for teen-aged kids. The rights had been payed for. The band had been hired. Theyd been in rehersal for weeks. The set had been designed. It was, simply, too late to produce another musical. There was public protest, rallies, etc. The cast of the Broadway production sent messages of their support. The principal changed his mind. There were four performances scheduled. The final was the matinee that my wife and I attended. I was prepared to be bored for the afternoon. I was very surprised. The show was superb! It was near-broadway good. The production values were high. The singing, professional. Some bits, some small piece now and then, reminded you that this was a high school production but overall it was a fine piece of work. Im proud of my grandsons work. Looking forward to the next production. PS: The road-company of the show attended an evening performance and were impressed.
