Yesterday, the Crown announced the withdrawal of charges against PC Kevin Brown, from Lambton County OPP, these charges were laid by the special Investigations Unit (SIU). Last September PC Brown engaged in a lawful pursuit of a suspect fleeing in a vehicle with other passengers. The suspect drove in an erratic and dangerous manner injuring himself and his passengers. The suspect was charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm. The Special Investigations Unit commenced an investigation into the actions of PC Brown. After a six month delay, the SIU claimed that PC Brown drove dangerously and laid a charge of dangerous driving causing bodily harm for the injuries inflicted to the passenger of the fleeing vehicle. Yesterday, the Crown has announced that after a review of the evidence including statements from the injured parties, the suspect, civilian witnesses, and witness officers, the same evidence reviewed by the SIU, that there is no reasonable prospect of conviction and withdrew the charges. The OPPA welcomes this news as it was always of the view that PC Brown was always engaged in the lawful execution of his duties during this incident and should not have been charged.
