Yesterday, the Dutch ambassador visited the cathedral of Bujumbura to attend a service which heralded the opening of the ecclesiastical year. Within the animated and lively scene of the cathedral, several classical pieces of music were performed. The evening reached its peak when several Burundian choirs displayed their beautiful voices to celebrate the event. Besides being partner countries in development, the Burundian choirs illustrated another link between Burundi and the Netherlands: their love for choir music. Even the Dutch ambassador was, before leaving to Africa, a member of a choir. He stated that the human voice truly is a powerful instrument and singing together is a great experience. The ambassador already contacted a Dutch choirmaster whos interested in visiting the Burundian choirs. Let’s hope next year the cathedral can welcome a mixed choir!
