Yesterday was Karvachauth and you could see how well our commercial world had taken over the festival and made it outright materialistic....right from beauty soaps to fairness creams and bleaches to cameras and phones to dresses & sarees to diamond jewellery, in fact anything that can remotely be related to women...so if the guy loves the wife he would certainly gift some of these to the fasting wife...well it was not these but something else that caught my attention....it was some kind of a program where celebrities like some popular TV personalities and well known people like Chetan Bhagat , Mahi , Saurabh , cast and crew of Half Girlfriend ,some script writers and plenty others who announced that they would be observing the fast along with their wives...I do not know what people feel about such things but I surely found it kind of funny- One of the guy says if the wives can make such a sacrifice for their long life why cant they too...the other thought this was the best way to prove how much he loved his wife....yet another said that he would give his wife a pleasant surprise...in short most echoed similar sentiments...not the newly wed guys alone even most wives too, sounded quite excited about having the husbands observe fast along with them..... My reason for finding such things funny is- why must there be a need for Gen -Now to make fasting such a superficial activity...fasting is a cleansing exercise and therefore must not be made into a litmus test for measuring love quotient between a couple.... Love , affection ,concern, care, compassion ,empathy , understanding , respect etc etc all such emotions can be displayed by hundred other means too...if a wife knows the husband loves her , he doesnt need to prove it by fasting...and guys please - Women have a monopoly over Karvachauth , so kindly do not tread there....and Do Understand - Women DO NOT do any favour by fasting therefore dont think of returning favours...its just that they want to do it ...Period...
