Yesterday was Startup Day Across America, a day established by the bipartisan Innovation and Entrepreneurship Caucus to help raise awareness of startup activity and job creation around the country. IntelliWheels is a startup located at the University of Illinois Research Park. They were founded in 2010 as a student startup and developed unique geared wheels to make wheelchairs twice as easy to push. I had the opportunity to try out the these innovative wheels when I visited the Research Park a few months ago, and I can tell you first hand that the difference is tremendous, it can be life-changing for those who rely on using a wheelchair. In recognition of their hard work and innovation, IntelliWheels was just awarded a $1.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development to advance their development of these multi-geared wheels. Congratulations to the entire IntelliWheels team for this well-deserved grant! Please take a few moments to visit the IntelliWheels website to find out more about this amazing group of entrepreneurs.
