Yesterday was Westons biggest post-treatment scan, the full body - TopicsExpress

Yesterday was Westons biggest post-treatment scan, the full body PET scan. Today we received mixed news from that scan. The amazingly wonderful news is that Westons leg and pelvic area, where the cancer once was, is now looking cancer free!! We are overjoyed with this news:-) The concerning report comes from his lungs. They observed some inflammation that looks like pneumonia, so hes starting an antibiotic to treat that. This isnt a huge surprise, as big brother had a cough last week. The other worry is that there was a small spot in his lungs, less than a centimeter, that looks abnormal. This means that it did not pick up the contrast dye like it was supposed to. This could mean that cancer has metastasized to his lungs, but we are praying that this is not the case. We understand that abnormalities are actually pretty common in PET scans. So, now, we wait...again:-( He will have a CT scan of the lungs and chest on Monday that should give some answers. I should add that our oncologist originally scheduled the lung CT scan to occur yesterday, along with the PET scan, but that didnt happen because our insurance denied it!! Honestly, the worry is very overwhelming to us right now, as we know that sarcomas tend to hide out in the lungs. But, we are trying to focus on the good news! That is...Our little boy is walking around on 2 cancer free legs!! That alone is such an answered prayer. We will continue to post news as we receive it.
