Yesterday was a long, but incredibly fulfilling day... I started it off celebrating 20 years of AmeriCorps with probably close to 1,000 people, consisting of incoming Corps members, alums, supervisors, staff, etc. It was a reminder of how much I appreciate my own past service experiences, and the potential impact an individual can have on communities when they put their heart into whats so much more than just a job for 10 to 12 months. Had a chance to reconnect with some friends I hadnt seen in a while, and that was really nice too =) Then we had our monthly Tea @ the Cottage gathering, and I wasnt sure how many people would show up this time, since we went with a more serious topic for the evening relevant to current national events: race. But in the end, I think we had like a total of 16 wonderful folks (including 4 brand new AmeriCorps members!!!), and everyone shared openly during the dialogue portion. Talk about a truly special way to kick the weekend off; and to be honest, we probably could have talked for several more hours if sleep wasnt necessary. Cant wait for the 2 year anniversary of T@tC in October!
