Yesterday was awful. Cant bring myself to watch it again, even the highlights to try and make some sort of analysis of the defeat, or to reach a logical conclusion of why we let in 8 goals. Dont think I ever will either. Ended up making an 11pm trip to McDonalds over Monkwearmouth last night to comfort eat, to make me feel human again, and bumped into some Sunderland fans walking to their car in the car park, obviously just getting back from the match possibly on the ALS coach, which left Sunderland at 6am. They looked absolutely paggered but were still laughing and having a joke. One of them took a run up and kicked an empty McDonalds bag as hard as he could and shouted VERGINIIII. I tried to play it cool and stifle my laughter but if you cant laugh at yourself then what do you have left? The one extreme positive to come out of yesterday is a reminder of the extreme loyalty to which our fans show to Sunderland AFC. It fills me with huge pride to be able to interact with these fans on a daily basis and your dedication, devotion and optimism is simultaneously both inspiring and a little bit weird. Good weird though. Long may it continue. See you at the SOL next week. Chris Thompson ALS
