Yesterday was indeed a very special day! It marked the three year anniversary of our bringing Wilbur home for the last and final time. This beautiful little soul has blossomed so much in the last three years and continues to be the source of much happiness and love. Wilbur is an ambassador for all small dogs and we feel so very grateful that he ended up in our care. I could not ask for a better canine companion. He has come a long way from being a stray on the streets of LA. At the shelter he was called TURNIP because they are overrun with animals and apparently run out of names to call them. He would have been euthanized were it not for the dedicated group of people who pulled him from the shelter and transported him to Washington. That day, they were only instructed to pull females but as you can see from his kennel card, there was no way anyone with a pulse could have left that face behind. For a year, little Wilbur lived with a member of a rescue organization who helped build the groundwork for his amazing manners and obedience. Following that, he was picked up by Paws Without Borders Rescue, who I later profiled in a story for the Ladysmith Chronicle. We werent looking to add more to our family at the time... we had just lost our last rat and didnt have the heart to take on more animals. But when I saw Wilburs sweet face on that website I was done for... and thank goodness for that. I know its so cliche but he really is the best dog ever. And he touches hearts wherever he goes. I am so lucky to get to spend the rest of his life with him, and thankful to the team of people who were involved in saving his life
