Yesterday was my first foray into a big EDM festival - a positive experience for sure. Went to Hard Day of the Dead (day 1) and was delighted to see deadmau5 and Eric Prydz do a wicked VS. 2 hour set. It looked they were both having fun and it was a real cool thing to see. Never seen Mau5 before and hes been the inspiration for my focus on electronic music - Cant wait until his Entropy tour The sound on HARD stage and HARDer stage was super solid also, such clear low-end. Hearing Pretty Lights drop some OPIUO on the crowd was really cool to see - Hope Opiuo keep getting more recognition. Good to find new artists to look out for like ALESIA, Danny Daze…..I still dont get Trap music….sorry, I just dont get it. Aside from some epic moments that made the price of the ticket worth it, I gotta say that the #EDM scene, as much as people fear its over-popularity or like to take shots at it, is really a positive and amazing thing. My background and musical roots lay in Metal, so my experience with large crowds and the difficulty it takes in just standing and enjoying your favorite music really made me appreciate the positive energy. The biggest bummer was all the police everywhere and the crazy tight security check, but then again, I was alone and probably looked out of place…..so I get it, but I still beat em….ha! The crowd filed out of the Pomona Fiarplex like 50,000 classical music fans leaving a symphony and I was shocked that I only witnessed a handful of drunkards and dum-dums, so that made everything super enjoyable. I would recommend trying a festival for sure if you are on the fence and anti-social like myself. Im extra-motivated to continue work on this next record and try and get myself out there in the live-world more - I really believe Im writing the best electro music I ever have and I am impatiently holding onto them until I can present them in a whole album and say something strong musically. Regardless if I am releasing music to 10 people on the internet or if I ever have the good fortune to make it to a place like the HARDer stage I will continue making music until my last day - Its all I think about everyday and its what I need to be doing full-time. Somehow and someway I have to just continue to grow and make better stuff - Hopefully one day I can make someone else as happy to hear my music as I was seeing @deadmau5 and @ericprydz last night. Great music is really a special art…psychedelic, communal, personal, minimal, progressive…… Music is all there is.
