Yesterday was my last Last Chance Christmas Show of 2014 - playing - TopicsExpress

Yesterday was my last Last Chance Christmas Show of 2014 - playing for some very challenged and special folks in a lock-down unit I have been lucky to keep coming back to for 3 years now. I have to wrangle the staff members to help me get them all out of their rooms and up close and personal to ME so we can truly connect and once that happens, so does the magic. It is AMAZING how they all come to life - but ESPECIALLY for the Christmas songs. Something miraculous happened yesterday - a man who lives on the Assisted Living side where they can roam around freely - heard the music and apparently took it upon himself to come to the locked door of our unit and knock and asked to be let it so he could enjoy the music too. And like the miracle it was, there was an empty chair front and center just waiting for him. After every song, he said, Amen!. Theres a man named Van who has a gorgeous tenor voice like Nat King Cole. When I get him alerted, I purposely back off the mic so I can just hear him sing. It is the voice of an angel. A gal named Virginia always sits next to him and gently tries to keep him awake so she can hear him and she leans in to bask in it. Its our little deal every time. You should have heard him sing Chestnuts -SO beautiful... After Silent Night, a man named Gene who knows every word to every song - and usually spouts off something about the streets of San Francisco in between songs - offered up this gem: Any round yon virgins in here? Dont be embarrassed, speak up! Good-bye Christmas season 2014. I HATE to see you go. I had a Christmas (or Chanukah) party almost every day. SO MUCH MAGIC. I do believe this was the BEST. CHRISTMAS. EVER. Now bring on NEW YEARS EVE and 2015!!!!
