Yesterday was one of the best days to be in a small town and participate and experience Remembrance Day. The rain that poured out of the skies did not dampen Souris spirits. A church service at St Marys with Legion essay readings and special music that brought us to the Legion where the crowds gathered and the fuss to get the wreaths sorted out and get lined up for the parade. Souris Fire Dept joined the Vets on the parade and held up the ranks while the 170 wreaths were laid, all individually announced. Did I mention the rain, it didnt drive the crowd away, there were just as many people or more then last year. And the kids, so proud to see so many that came out. Following the ceremony at the cenotaph, my family went to visit Aunt Margarets grave, WW II Vet to lay our poppies and a wreath We Will Never Forget You Back at the Legion out of the rain, there was hot coffee and a sandwich and a sweet with chat with old friends and school mates that gather once a year to Remember Home to get in the hot shower and make my way back to the Legion where we were treated to a fabulous roast beef dinner and enjoy the presentations of awards and presentations for service to the Legion. A special slide presentation of a couple trip to France and Belgium to the was memorials of our fallen comrades and their experiences of their journey. Then to top it off.... the dance... the Friends of the Irish had the floor a rocking! Well the rain finally stopped on my way back home to the farm... so happy I could share and experience Remembrance Day in a small Town of Souris :)
