Yesterday was our last full day on the stunning island of Kythera...filled with a diverse mix of culture, history, architecture and food & wine, of course! Georgious once again did us proud with a wonderful suggested itinerary taking in the natural waterfall in the pretty inland town of Mylopotamos (although the advised 15 steps down to it turned out to be 15 actual steps intact, a bit of undergrowth rambling and an abseil down some rubble!) We then took a hair - raising drive along the clifftop road (having been assured it was tarmac all the way to put Susan Andersons mind at rest! Foul - mouthed video footage to follow on her post!) with spectacular views over the Eastern coastline, the cave of Agia Sofia and down to the picture-postcard beach of Limonades. Lunch consisted of an amazing greek salad with feta, an omelette with peppers and local sausage and half a litre of homemade retsina wine! Bliss! The taverna owner and his wife were the highlight and we ended up agreeing that when they came to visit the UK, I would vote for him as Prime Minister...frayed denim shorts, bare feet, spliff and all! The bathroom was also a half mile up the road, so I couldnt resist driving past as Susan emerged! Such a kid at heart! He he he. On returning to our love palace, I made an interesting visit to the latest history exhibit in the community hall...at huge collection of photos, plans and letters by a Mr George Kosmas, a Dutch architect who put in place a lot of the infrastructure of this island paradise, little over 50yrs ago! Our final meal was at our favourite Souvlaki restaurant (we opted to splash out rather than partake in our usual dish...meat wrapped in a greek!) complimentary wine rounded off with the most mind - blowing orange cake and vanilla ice cream (Susan also fell in love with the young greek boy with eyes you could drown in and the eyelashes of a camel behind the counter, who wooed her with and broken bit of cake to take home!) Packing up now for next chapter...Ferry to Gytheo! Sending love to one and all! Xx
