Yesterday was the five year anniversary of Alex Fountains death. I didnt feel up to writing anything yesterday, but I dont want this to pass without remembering this great friend. Let me tell you some things about Alex - he was always funny. He worked with us two summers in a row. He took his job at HPX very seriously. He introduced me to Refused. He was unafraid to tell me when music I liked sucked, like, you know, the day he started working for me. He was instantly a useful part of the team, and those summer students were an essential part of cross checking the talent booking to make sure us old guys were still with it. He worked SO HARD to get Pissed Jeans to Halifax that first year and then it fell apart, I cant remember why, routing issues? But he said maybe next year. He told me at the start of that second summer that he was dealing with depression, was seeing help and was quite open about it. I offered him whatever help, support and time he needed. Things seemed so normal that summer and he seemed to be doing so well, I dont think any of us had any idea of the turmoil he was dealing with inside. That last week he was late for work a lot and working late but I didnt think anything of it, we all kept weird hours and worked when we could, and we all had things going on the side. In my heart I will always feel some regret I didnt do more, help more, see more, even while my head says that I know that we all, Alexs friends, family and co-workers, we all did the best we could. I miss Alex.
