Yesterday was the saddest moment of my 20 years owning and running - TopicsExpress

Yesterday was the saddest moment of my 20 years owning and running Penbritte. After a very fortunate 17 years without a serious colic, we found Hawkley in the field in some distress. We sent a healthy horse out that morning. At 14h00 he came back from the field rolling. We immediately called our vet (who was very far away at the time). We had to tube and stabilize Hawkley to the best of our ability before we were able to load him in a horse box destined for Northrand Animal clinic. After a few hours of surgery it was decided that the loop caught in the twist was too large to remove and he was put down. Never have I felt so helpless and sad. We lost a GREAT horse yesterday. Our condolences to Tyla and Johan and a huge thank you to my staff; especially Santjie and grooms who at times risked serious injury to themselves before we managed to tube and medicate him. Also a huge thank you to all the vets at Northrand who rushed back to work to perform the surgery. I have no words to express our loss.
