Yesterday wasn"t my best day,after an enjoyable mornings golf,looking forward to the Social in Chorpus Christi,,on the way down the Naas rd,,approaching the turn for Ballyfermot,,A police car with two guards were there with the camera,,I was doing 60 and not pertubed until,one of them signalled me to stop,,unfortunately i was the only car at that precise moment on the road,,and while I was stopped numerous cars flew by..I said i might have been 1 or 2 over the 60,,but he told me ,i was in a 50mph,zone,,which completely astounded me as it had been 60 at one time,,I had been careful at the part opposite the Red Cow which had been 50, and finally changed to 60,, I explained to him that i genuinely believed it was still 60,,and asked when it was changed,,which he mumbled a while ago,,being the fat sneering pompous ass he appeared to be,,needless to say my plea received just a sneer,The irony of it all was,i always keep reasonably within the limits,and put on the cruise control on the main Naas rd,,just another money grabbing way of filling the govt coffers.. Trying to put it out of my mind,,arrived at Corpus Christi,,a very small crowd,,not surprising with the lovely hot sunny day and people on holidays, as usual the music was lovely and we enjoyed it anyway..until just before the last few dances were played we had a shock announcement by Noel and Angie.. unknown to us,,there obviously had been some issues between Noel/Angie and John Francis/Colette/Ciara,,and that they would be parting company,,each going their own way.. This certainly was a shock,and though it must have been very difficult for Noel and Angie to do this,,personally I have to admire their openess and not to leave people wondering what happened,,They could hav easily have just gone on their way and said nothing,,and have tongues wagging...The details of their issues are their own business,,the main point got across was seemed to be,lack of communication,and trust of a sort,,enough said on that,I"m sure there is lot more involved.. Noel and Angies as we all know, started these social dances in Portmarnock, and John then started doing the music..it was a wonderful thing for us all ,both social dancers and competitors,,Noel and Angie did a marvellous job,providing lessons free of charge,,teaching variations that we could all do together,,They were, and always will be the most welcoming people i have personally met in dancing,,and so,,with John/Colette/Ciara (John being famous for Mr Stay on the floor and usual wit),,they worked so well together like a team,,each helping to create the athmosphere we we have experienced up to the present day,,until this shock announcement.. Apparently.John/Colette and Ciara will continue to run the Corpus Christi social,,while Noel and Angie will run their"s in Dance addiction,,the flyer which Angie gave out yesterday,,and is on Ballroomdance matters,,gives the dates and times,which will be on sun,,4-7pm,,while John"s will vary between the Sun and Sat.depending on comps being on ,on the sun etc. This to me is very sad occasion,,just another tragedy in an ever changing face of ballroom dancing in Ireand.. WE have known for some time,,that on the competitive side,,they had drifted apart,,Noel/Angie to IDC and John staying faithful to DSI,,though this should have nothing to do with the social end,,unfortunately things do become entangled,, As for the dancers themselves,Well it shouldn"t affect them,,WE all like both sides who have done so much for us,Noel and Angie really being close to the social scene,,joining the dancers in Blackpool and going on cruise with them,and running wed socials including lessons,,teaching them all sequence dances for Blackpool,,,while john and Ciara provide Ballyfermot for practice,,supervised ,and lessons etc,, The only good thing to come out of this,,if we consider it good,,is,more opportunity for the dancers to enjoy social dancing hoping of course they don"t clash... One thing that did actually happen while i was dancing yesterday,,as I approached the front entrance,,just inside,,for that brief moment, I expected to see Frank Williams there on his usaul seat,saddened me a little,and now I wonder what he would have made of it all, I can only wish both sides success in the new roads they take,,and hope to support both,if i possibly can...cheers Ntt
