Yesterday we featured an item in honor of Bastille Day, and bypassed this wonderful Lincoln note dated 14 July, 1860. On this day in 1860, candidate Lincoln had Pennsylvania on his mind. On the 14th he wrote this short note to Thomas Sweney in Philadelphia, likely acknowledging the news that Congressman John Hickman had changed party allegiance to the Republicans. On the 16th he summoned his friends Leonard Swett and David Davis to discuss making a campaign trip to the Keystone State. ow.ly/zbrsP
