Yesterday, we got stranded in Ubud for Nyepi- the Balinese day of silence and reflection. All establishments including restaurants and even the airport was closed. No one was allowed outside. But a group of kindred souls from all over the world took us in at their beautiful villa. They even fed us and offered their bed. Today, at the Denpasar airport, we ran out of cash for the passenger tax. All ATMs were broken. They wouldnt let us fly out. A few minutes before the final boarding call, a guy beside us asked what the problem was. We told him we needed to pay 400,000 Rp. He gave us the cash and wished us a good flight. Travel never fails to renew my belief in the goodness of the human spirit.
