Yesterday we had a forecast 40% chance of 1-5mm of rain. The rain began just before 9pm and by midnight it had pretty much stopped. We had approx 70mm fall in that time. Poor Dean was out in it checking the creek levels etc all by himself until he came in and said he couldnt see the horses - then I got up :D We were concerned that a tree might have fallen onto the fence of their paddock but we found them safe and sound in their paddock at around 1am. Dean managed to get their fly masks off as they couldnt see a thing by that stage. What sounded like a roaring wind was actually masses of water pouring down from behind our property and plunging into the creek bed. At one point one of the waterholes was a spinning vortex of water, mud and debris. With the creek so close to sheds, cars, etc Dean kept a watchful eye on it until about 2 am or so. This morning much of the water has receded, the animals are all fine but there is a little bit of water in our dam. These are some shots Dean managed to take during the height of it all last night. Our friends not far away had 100mm of rain and have fences down all over their property. Their horses are also safe and secure though fortunately.
