Yesterday we had a half day excursion to Ronda before we continued to Cordoba for another 2 nights stopover. Besides Aranjuez, Ronda is one place that i look forward to return. Nothing can detract Rondas incomparable setting , perched above the Tajo gorge ( pronounced Taho). It also has fine architecture , one of the oldest bullrings in Spain and Moorish and Roman remains. It was mentioned by many travelers including Ibnu Batuta. There are many ways to Ronda , but the best routes in, yielding the best views of the old city are from Algeciras and from San Pedro de Alcantara . This time around , our driver has taken a different route from the last time i was here and this time we saw orange groves , avocado plantations and miles and miles of olive trees. Our guide in Ronda was Valme a local and she was so wonderful talking and commenting with passion about her beautiful city which no one can deny. We started with the beautiful park, Alameda de Tajo, in the center of the city with its gorgeous autumn leaves of different hues from the more than 200 types of trees available there. According to her it is a favorite spot for young school kids to come and do field nature studies. There was a monument of Pedro Romero , the foremost Matador of his age. There is annual fair and people come by the thousands dressed of the period held every September in the memory of their local hero. Bullfighters from all over the world will attend this fair also.Orson Welles and Sir Hemmingway were very fond of this sport.....really ? I dont like it. To be continued.......
