Yesterday we highlighted the North America Orchid Conservation Center (NOACC) in honor of Endangered Species Day, May 16. How did the NAOCC begin? It all started as with Dr. Dennis Whigham at the Smithsonian Ecological Research Center (SERC). He reached out across the country looking for institutions to partner with the Smithsonian to form the NAOCC. The Garden heard about the effort and joined. The Garden has been a part of the development of NAOCC for a few years. Other partners include, Atlanta Botanic Garden, Chicago Botanic Garden, and The Nature Conservancy.
