Yesterday we talked about gridlock and partisanship. I believe gridlock is good and bipartisanship is way overrated. Should legislators compromise and negotiate? Certainly. But they should never abandon their principles for the sake of reaching a deal. The Founding Fathers knew that gridlock was good because government inherently grows and becomes more intrusive and tyrannical. Justice Scalia describes why this is important, especially for the protection of minority rights and beliefs. I would encourage you to share this basic understanding with friends who deride the gridlock in Washington. Ask yourself, would you rather have gridlock or members of Congress abandoning principles of freedom and liberty just to get something done? Bipartisanship is highly overrated.
