Yesterday we went out with the family. Joseph bought Angelina a dress, a treat and some cascarones (egg shells with confetti). I noticed that it wasnt enough for her and she kept asking for more and more things. I finally sat down with her during meal time (we had packed our food as always) and I announced that starting then and there, everyday wed give thanks for 5 things. I went first, then Joseph and then Angelina. The look of recognition in her face as she started to say Im thankful for my family. My toys. My dress. Getting on the merry-go-round. The house I live in. I turned to her and she had tears in her eyes. I asked are you okay? and she said these are happy tears from saying thanks. She got it :) In this day and age, its so important to teach children to be grateful for the little things. Ive watched way too many kids and young people grow up with a sense of entitlement. Teach them early, theyll learn.
