Yesterday we were having lunch at a Spanish restaurant (not to be confused with a restaurant where they speak Spanish). A family came into the restaurant and I greeted them as they passed and walked to their table. They did seem somewhat surprised when I spoke to them, but they all responded in kind. The restaurant was full and no open tables except those reserved previously. An older couple entered and took seats at the one open table without waiting to be seated. The hostess saw them, and politely told them the table was reserved and that no other was available. They seemed rather disappointed, and stood to leave. I asked Connie if shed mind if I offered to share our table with them and she concurred, so I stood and asked the gentleman if they would like to share our table. After overcoming his initial surprise ( or was it after he understood my gringo accented Spanish ?), he asked his wife if she would accept our invitation. It turned out they had come to lunch for her birthday. So we not only had a pleasant lunch, but were able to attend a birthday party to which we hadnt been invited. Now if hed only paid la cuenta as well,,,,
