Yesterday we were in Fatima, site of perhaps the most famous Marian apparition in the 20th century. It was truly special for me because I recall being captivated by everything surrounding this event when I was a boy. Fatima was very formative for my young faith. So being there felt familiar. The grounds are well cared for and a sense of quiet reverence envelops the place. Dina and I went to confession and mass. The priest was Ugandan, and there were people from all over the world which brings home the international nature of the faith. The cathedral hold the tombs of Saint Jacinta, Saint Francisco, and Blessed Lucia, the three shepherd children who saw the apparition of Mother Mary over a period of six months in 1917. Truly special. So in a way we completed a double pilgrimage between Santiago and Fatima. I definitely feel very privileged. Now were off to Lisbon for the final leg of the holiday.
