Yesterday went to see Alejandro Jodorowsky surreal autobiographical movie the Dance of Reality. Typical to his hyper symbolic style, almost every scene is an image akin to a Tarot card, with some characters quite literally representing actual Tarot cards (the queen of cups being an old hag on the shore, warning young Alejandro of the wrath of the sea). The Dance of Reality centres around the mask of identity both for the young boy and his father, as the one looks for his place in the world, while the other tries to hold fast to his concept of his self. However serious the general theme, from scene to scene the film is hilarious and totally outrageous and borderline fantastic.
