Yesterday while working at MUTC, I was THRILLED to finally get a wound card that said... closed head injury, ALTERED MENTAL STATUS. Bwahaha!! LOVE this card.... I had so much fun with it. While waiting to get sent out, I found some electrical wire so I braided it to make a dog leash Yes, THIS crazy lady was going to have an invisible dog. (giggles) The military personnel I interacted with was AWESOME! At the first DCON area, as I walked up with my little dog, I was approached by a young man in full decontamination suit as I walked my little dog Precious. Of course I was startled at his appearance, and backed away from this creature from another planet( at this point he read my injury card and realized I had the altered mental status, he was very gentle speaking to me) It took him a few seconds to assure me he was human, and that he was there to help me to the circus tents (giggles) We walked slowly so my pup could stop often to sniff around, get a drink from the puddles, and potty. Once we got to the tent area, as I stood in line, the commotion from people screaming, and running up, my little dog was spooked, and pulled loose from her leash and ran off! I screamed to my precious, and started to run after her. I was stopped by one of these creatures but I screamed to my little dog and told them I HAD to get her before she was hurt! About 30 feet in front of me was a young military gal in suit, bent down, called to my Precious and picked her up.... then brought her back to me. LOL ALL of the civilians ( that I work with) exploded in applause and praise to her for helping me. It was ALL I could do to not laugh....but I put the leash back on my little dog and kept up the scene. As I stood there, talking to my little dog, assuring her we would be OK, and that she was a bad girl for running off.... several new people came walking up to the DCON area, scaring my little dog, so I kept walking away from the line, taking her to the grassy area. I really kept those military people on their toes. LOL I was escorted to the front of the line, because of my head trauma, well this upset a few people because a dog was going ahead of them and at one point a man darted from the line and grabbed my leash, trying to take my dog! I screamed, (LOUD) for help and 3 military grabbed the man, making him let go of my precious. I was visibly upset and one of them military gals assured me we were going to be OK, ( behind her giggles). Just as I calmed down, and calmed down my little dog, another guy jumped out and grabbed my leash. Of course THIS sent me into a fit.... I screamed and tried to make him let go....then I broke out the tears....I had a full breakdown. ( LOL ) 4 military people grabbed him, and surrounded me and my little dog. I was then escorted into the tent for DCON. As I dried my tears and took my little dog into the tent, the next DCON personnel was informed of my status, and of my little dog. I was instructed to take the sponge, and rinse off my body. I asked about my little Precious and the gal took another sponge, bent down, and proceeded to wash of my little dog. ( at this point I was having a hard time controlling my laughter.) I was escorted through the DCON and at every point the next personnel was informed of my status and dog, and each and every one of them stopped to take care of my dog, and pet her and talk to her, assuring the little dog that she and her mommy would be OK. I was SUPER impressed with this group of military for their way of handling this situation. It really made this a wonderful experience, and renewed my faith in our military, and human kindness. I am glad to have the next 8 days off, to recover from the heat, and to get caught up on my chores here on the farm, but cant wait to do this all over again!
