Yesterdays Hindustan Times carried a story about how toddlers aged 3 and 4 today are joining the rat race as parents seek to equip them with future skills (!) such as public speaking, phonics, chess,spanish and Mandarin !!!The story disturbed me a lot as a parent of a 3 year old...WHY ? Guys..why we are killing their childhood ?Let them play..let them dirty their hands in mud..let them learn life skills by playing with their friends..Why we as parents are pushing them for such classes for our own prestige issue ?So that you can brag to your office colleagues about your kid ? Life is changing..rapidly.. YOU think mandarin and spanish is language of future..may be not..who knows after 20 years when these kids will enter the workforce.. may be Hindi or Bahasa Indonesia will be language of world trade..let THEM decide... No one taught us computer in Junior KG..It was not there... still we all use computers today..create softwares...No one taught me to how to speak English fluently ... till I was 16..yes I was a verny ..a Marathi student..I am fine today.. Please..dont screw up beautiful childhood of your kids friends..THINK and dont push your little one in the rat race...
