Yesterdays busy twighlight highlights included me making a lovely old lady cry within the first hour of my shift (she was terrified of having a blood test done); a power cut for the rest of the shift that left me doing cannulas, arterial blood gases and NG tubes with a torch between my teeth/balanced on various body parts; the main ward doors locking permanently leaving me running round service corridors to get between wards; my bleep going off 5 times at the point that an old man was trying to open up to me about the thing he had never been able to talk to anyone about before (kind of ruins the moment when youre running out to a phone/away to another ward every 10 minutes); and a nurse asking me to put in an NG tube and cannula for bed 25 - Me: oh ok, whos that then? Nurse: thats the lady you can hear screaming DONT TOUCH ME down the ward. Me: ah...fabulous...I would say it can only get better or at least nobody died but I think those kind of declarations are fairly unwise in this line of work so Ill go with - it can only get handed over to someone else at some point!
