Yesterdays discovery of a young hermit living in the desert caused me to remember this Japanese man, living alone and naked on a deserted island for 20 years. In my mid-twenties I gave this lifestyle a try and decided it wasnt for me. Nevertheless, I remain fascinated by those who do live this way and I can relate to the quality of life they seek to attain. These people may appear antisocial though I know from experience this lifestyle is often less about running away from others and more about the search for the blessings of deep solitude and societal disconnect as well as the revelations which may only be apparent when we uncouple from Humanity.
