Yesterdays lone wolf incident in Sydney has shed the light on Indian law enforcement agencies. What will happen if such kind of incidents happen in India ? Our state law enforcement agencies do not have the capability to sustain any terrorist attack due to lack of training and equipment. During such incidents state law enforcement agencies solely rely on Army or NSG as has been the case during 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Irony is Australias state law enforcement agencies are even better equipped than Indias most elite counter-terrorism unit NSG. Australia having faced its first hostage crisis in its entire history today proved how better prepared are they even though there has been close to nil terror attacks on Australian soil. Now compare this to Indias preparedness level. Following major terrorist attacks happened in India since 1947 which I can recall as of now: 1. 1993 bombings in Mumbai 2. 1998 Indian Airlines flight IC-814 hijacking 3. 2001 Attack on Indian parliament 4. 2002 Akshardham temple attack 5. 2008 Ganeshguri bombings on 30th October 6. 2008 Mumbai attacks on 26th November and countless others.. And what has India learnt from it ? Nothing. They just ncreased the budget of NSG, which prior to 26/11 attack used to wear scooter helmets and better cooperation between different agencies and thats it. What happened to state law enforcement agencies ? They are still stuck with dandas, .303, Sterling, Insas, FN SLR and AK-47 and all the outdated equipments including scooter helmets and cricket pads. I mean seriously cricket pads ?
