Yesterdays morning training video was taking some tips from my friend Tony Blauer (of CrossFit Defense fame) and using them. Heres the original from Tony. :) Go check out his blog at tonyblauerblog and youll find tons of good stuff. Take home some lessons from this brief clip of his training: 1. Simple works under pressure. When I have to work through a decision tree under duress, I get stuck fast. When I can react instinctively and have trained that instinct repeatedly to work for me, I will have more success. Flinch and push away danger is a good, simple, effective idea. Use it. 2. This works across many martial arts systems. I am a Kenpo guy at heart. I love how Kenpo as I have been taught it puts simple ideas to work. What he is doing here in the beginning with the roundhouse is the beginning of a technique we teach to beginning students. (any Kenpoists out there should see Five Swords in that initial move immediately!) It comes up again many times in the system. Your system is probably similar. 3. As Bruce Lee famously said, Use only that which works, and take it from any place you can find it. Take what you can from any lesson you can get. This is a good one. Try it. 4. Hicks Law is real. Check it out here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hicks_law Many thanks to Tony for permission to use this clip. Attitude. Skills. Plan.
