Yesterdays post about replacing Andrew Jackson whose on the twenty dollar bill, with a Native American, was clearly divided. Kind of surprised me to say the least. Actually Andrew Jackson fits perfectly on the 20...he and money represent the power and greed of government and its disregard of humanity. We do not need any of our peoples faces imposed on this type of corruption. Bahahaha ! I dont think so! Have respect for our people of the past !! They fought and died for their land, their people , and their way of life ! Not for stupid money and greed !!!!! Why did Andrew Jackson earn the name “Indian Killer”?? Its relativly simple. He was a major proponent of Indian removal, his first effort was waging a war against the Creeks. The Creeks lost 23 million acres of land in Georgia and Alabama, paving the way for cotton plantation slavery. He would recommend that troops systematically kill women and children to complete the extermination of Indigenous Peoples. In 1830, he signed the Indian Removal Act, which legalized ethnic cleansing. Within seven years 46,000 indigenous people were removed from their homelands east of the Mississippi. Their removal gave 25 million acres of land “to white settlement and to slavery,” according to PBS. The area was home to the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Seminole nations. In the Trail of Tears alone, 4,000 Cherokee people died of cold, hunger, and disease on their way to the western lands. So knowing what this man did to our people and the role he played in the Indian Removal Act that killed thousands of our people, are reasons why he SHOULD NOT be on the Twenty dollar Bill. Its emulating him and putting him on a pedastool so to speak. Hes being recognized and glorified for his accomplishments during his Presidentcy. Hes elavated from being just a regular person to a man who deserves not only to be admired in history books but is given a spot on United States currency along side other presidents as well who are being recognized. The presidents on money in my opinion are being glorified. Does this mean that if the president(s) were removed that they should be replaced by Native Americans Chiefs? I believe it would be acceptable considering that our people represent the bigger part of not only the history of our Country but their role in the making of the Declaration of Independence as well. The idea of replacing ALL presidents on U.S currency would be something I would support if it ever came to pass. Whether the replacement images were to be of Native Americans wouldnt matter to me. Just so long as the true savages were removed.
