Yesterdays sightings of Danny ODonnell Jr. turned to be false - TopicsExpress

Yesterdays sightings of Danny ODonnell Jr. turned to be false today. He had to be sedated and have an oxygen tube placed down inside of his throat this evening. The bittersweet part of all this is, the one thing we all need to survive is oxygen and actually it is now one of the difficulties he is experiencing, is getting good oxygen. When he showed up for his sleep study on Tuesday, his doctor didnt like the looks of a few things and sent him to the E.R. , once there, they stablized him and transported him to the ICU. The doctor told me that you and I would be dead if our oxygen level was to drop to the low 80s. Dannys was at 62 % when he was admitted to the ICU. With such low oxygen levels, his carbon dioxide levels were at a huge level like I explained before and his heart is enlarged. They have battled this the last three days. If they give him to much oxygen, his brain is not accustom to having so much and consequently he becomes disoriented, confused, senseless (like trying to leave the hospital and being escorted back to his room) and even mean to those who are treating him. I know, I can hear every waitress that ever worked at Danos, Danny, mean, no way, barf, barf.Today, he told us while there in his room that he was actually in Siletz (at the time) looking for his stolen home that he couldnt find. Very strange how the mind is set to our oxygen levels, whether high or low. In his case, as they try to increase them, doctors feel that he has conditioned his body and mind to survive on the small dozes he has been able to take in over the past year due to his sleep disorder mainly. Now, when he is given fresh clean air, his brain is unable to adjust to it and he gives an appearance similar to being drunk with slurred speach, disoriented behaviors, etc. He will be kept sedated through the weekend until Tuesday so he does not resist their efforts to keep him alive. If they dont, he will continue such noncompliant behaviors like the two IVs he has pulled out of his hand and arm, tubes he rids himself of, etc. etc. He is definetely a HIGH maintaince patient. haha, As I know Danny, he would be the first one to watch a tape of some of his moments and just roar with laughter and make jokes about that crazy guy he is watching. Tuesday, he will go into surgery to have a trac done in which he will breath through the rest of his life. He agreed just yesterday morning while having very low doses of oxygen (this allows him to be the Danny I know) that if all other attempts fail, the trac would be the last resort to keep him from dying, then go for it. They have to wait till Tuesday since by the time tests were done today, Doctors conferred and they were able to talk with Tana (his middle daughter),it was too late to do the surgery today. Hence, the tube was placed in him and medically induced sleep left him resting peacefully till Tuesday. They nurse showed me how deep into a sleep he was by shaking his arms and almost shouting Danny and he never even flinched anything on his body. Kudos to Tana for being such a strong woman to confer with the Dr.s by telephone from Montana and giving her consent for Tuesdays surgery. I am proud of her and admire her love for her pop. Danny did come down to earth, this evening when oxygen levels were lowered, right before his tube procedure and he was put out to sleep. We talked for just a brief moment before we had to leave the room and he wanted me to tell those who had tried to call him or the ones he had visited with the day before, thanks. He ask me to wish mom a Happy Birthday (how he was able to be aware enough to remember that), he was happy that he had talked with our sister and little brother in the last 24 hours and lastly, he told me that those Lundy brothers (Danny and Dale) were pretty good guys. lol, As if he really needed to convey that to them after all their years of friendship. No more posts till Tuesday night. Please say a little prayer for him if you will. I know he is or has been a little hard to get along with at times (at least on the days he closed DanOs early to go crabbing and you were expecting to stop in and eat something) but, he is a good guy, a good dad and grandpa, son and brother, with a caring heart full of love for his family and friends.
