Yesterday’s fool was someone who really should know a lot better. One of Fred Sherwood’s truck drivers, they are the red and yellow bulk tipper artics that are in and out of Newton Longville landfill all the time. Bear in mind this used to be my industry and I worked alongside these guys, same work and trucks. He would be able to do 0 to 60 in about 28 seconds. He was running unladen and will be around the 12.00 to 13.00 tonnes weight. So we are on the V8/H2 roundabout going towards the bottle dump roundabout. An artic is in front of us travelling fairly slowly to negotiate the roundabout, as he clears the roundabout this fool in the Sherwood truck tries an overtake on the roundabout. Both the other truck and us. Bear in mind his trailer is 13 metres long, and is cutting across to the nearside lane, while we are indicating to move out around and past the other truck. As we overtook the leading truck this buffoon closed up to about three feet from our bumper, and attempted to overtake. I was watching him the whole time and he took 22 seconds to pass the other truck by which time we were 600 metres away. I’m sure you can think of lots of ‘technical terms’ to describe him. I know I can. I must admit when we were working in that industry with these people 20 years ago we did not rate most of them. They are mainly owner drivers so Sherwood cannot be blamed directly. This is not the truck in question but he is in the same paint.
