Yet again another friend in-boxed asking to know what I think of this quote by Dr. Ahmad Gumi: “No any military man has moral ground to complain of election rigging in 2015 because if the military had allowed democracy to grow, this country would have developed better than this. Those reading my wall can remember how only yesterday we examined Sheik Gumis claim to be speaking for Islam. One then wonders if by saying what he said above he was also speaking for Islam. Whatever the case maybe, in the Islam we know at a very basic level, it does not say one cannot complain or oppose a wrong done today just because he has committed a similar wrong yesterday: 1. Islam in its very essence, Yajibu ma kablu, meaning, holds one to account only for their future actions after repentance. Remember even the most pious early Muslims had some un-Islamic acts or sins before Islam of which they were forgiven. 2. If democracy is the right thing in Islam and the dictatorship of the past of Buhari was the wrong thing, then we remember Buhari saying he had repented long ago. 3. Can then be Islam for someone to continue castigating him for the sins he long ago hated himself for and repented? 4. Is it not the hallmark of Islamic philosophy, that one should be trusted on their words until they prove otherwise? 5. Or his repentance was made to pass through some people who have not yet seen it worthy of being passed to God to work on? 6. Are some people playing God? 7. Or they are dressing up in a religious cloak in order to lynch the dignity of a fellow Muslim? 8. Where they given money? 9. I truly cannot allege that for Zayyan Yabo, or Zakari Mijinyawa or Auwal Sani Anwar or Waziri Garba Dahiru, or even Mal, Hassan DM will not allow me to rest until I take back such allegations and apologies to the public for lying against a brother. 10. For people like Osita Udenson, or Victor Emmanuel they will not wait to place some phone call. They will quickly there and then call me to order. 11. A military man who is likely to complain about election after 14 February 2015 is not majhul. He is known by everybody. 12. The Islam we know has its Sharia with the aim and objective of protecting and preserving the dignity of man, whoever and wherever he maybe. 13. A scholar who will claim to speak for Islam and then indulge in the act of pulling down other human beings neglecting all standards of fair judgment and public pronouncements, is not being fair to himself, Muslims, humanity and Islam. 14. Among true gentlemen even Mr. President GEJ, cannot be said in public to be corrupt until after a court verdict. Should we do so, the Islamic warning is retribution here and hereafter, unless if there is forgiveness by God and GEJ or even by GEJ first then God! 15. There are luxuries that are not of gentlemen. More so when they are public figures or religious scholars!
