Yet another EMERGENCY. This nursing mama cat, Maple, was protecting her babies and wound up with what appears to be a BROKEN LEG as a result tonight. A stray cat bolted into Maples familys home, and Maple, like the good mama she is, instinctively went into attack mode. Maples Dad tried to separate the fighting cats by picking Maple up. A normally very gentle cat, Maple - owing to the stress she was under - redirected her aggression at her dad, and he dropped her out of pain: Poor Maple was sent crashing to the floor, injuring her leg in the process. Maple now cant put any weight on the leg, and started making strange noises when the kittens began crawling over her. Her family called various vet clinics, but all quoted them $400 + between x-rays and emergency fees, and they just dont have it - Maples dad was recently laid off, and Maples mom isnt working. They have two toddlers for whom to provide (Im told that their two year old adores Maple, and she him - she reportedly sits in his lap every morning while he eats his breakfast and watches Bubble Guppies), and with Maples dad just having been laid off Christmas was already shaping up to be hard. Like Jesses, Maples family is exceptionally low-income, and has no money for this emergency, so HC is paying for Maples necessary trip to the vet tonight. Were already in huge vet bill debt, but couldnt leave this mama cat to suffer through the night without so much as a painkiller. Her dad is en route to the vet with her now, and when I have an update from the vet I will post it. Fingers crossed that it isnt broken, but it very much sounds as though it is.
