Yet another batch of fresh thunderstorms will percolate across the Eastern U.S., while downpours and powerful storms also rumble in the summertime air across much of the Western U.S. The place to be is the Plains and Mississippi Valley, where plenty of mid-June sunshine is on the weather menu today. WeatherBug Meteorologist Todd Nelson has the latest in this exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook video. A compact, but energetic low pressure system will threaten Mid-Atlantic to Southeast residents with a potentially destructive round of thunderstorms heading into the homestretch of the workweek. A few tornadoes, large and destructive hail, and damaging wind gusts will accompany the thunderstorms for places such as Baltimore, Richmond, Va., Raleigh, N.C., Atlanta, and Birmingham, Ala. Not to be left out, the storms will also pack heavy rain in a short time, raising the flash flood threat. Other dangerous thunderstorms will spread across the western High Plains from Wyoming to Montana, with damaging winds and large hail the main issues. Downpours and thunderstorms will also interrupt a few outdoor activities along the central and southern Rocky Front Range. The only other weather hiccups will be found across the Pacific Northwest and Texas` Rio Grande Valley, where showers and a few thunderstorms will roam the sky. Meanwhile, a full complement of mid-June sunshine will blanket California, the Desert Southwest and for large stretches of the Plains and Mississippi Valley into the Southeast and Florida; only a few clouds and spotty showers and thunderstorms will dim out the sunshine in southern Florida later today. Temperatures will be coolest across the Northwest and New England coasts, where 50s and 60s will be the norm. Mild 70s and 80s will stretch from northern California all the way to the Mid-Atlantic beaches. Further south from interior California to the Carolinas and Florida, toasty 90s and even a few areas of triple digit heat will be a mainstay today.
