Yet another federal judge has ruled that Michigans ban on gay - TopicsExpress

Yet another federal judge has ruled that Michigans ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional, which it truly is. As justice looms closer to my home, I cannot help but wonder if Indiana will finally get this issue right before its undeniable progression towards a federal law. The pessimistic streak within in me says certain political elements in this state will fight to the end to deny rights that they, themselves, have been taking for granted. I cant help but feel that Indianas dominate political interests will not do the right thing until theyre forced to comply to a national mandate. To be sure, I dont care how it happens, only that it does happen. I can only hope that those in power realize that they are abusing said power by politicizing an issue that is, basically, a human rights violation at its core... or that we, the people, can lead them to the realization. The most disheartening aspect of this issue, at least for me, is the implication that denying Americans their right to freedom is based on any sort of moral platform. All the flowery speeches filled with scriptural references cannot hide the true motivations... ignorance, hatred, fear. These are not the motivations of a true Christian, these are judgements based on misinterpreted or cherry picked biblical references. If we are to take the bible as a literal guide, then we can all own slaves again and we can physically abuse our wives and mistresses if they do not fulfill their duties. Our society, over the course of many long and dark years, has come the conclusion that slavery and wife beating are morally unacceptable. We made it illegal, actually ascending the moral code of the bible. I am certain that Jesus, himself, would be fiercely proud of our ability to elevate our code of morality. I am also certain that when Jesus told us to, above all else, love one another, he did not mean except for the LGBT crowd. What Would Jesus Not Do? Jesus would NOT discriminate against ANYONE... and I bet he doesnt want any of us doing it on his behalf. As far as the whole War On Religion argument goes, I still see it as a war on secular individuals, not to mention those who practice religions other than Christianity, the self proclaimed choice of America. A citizens right to practice any religion of their choosing cannot infringe on another citizens right to their own personal version of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Anything less than justice for all means that America isnt the great place that I believe its supposed to be.
