Yet despite these declines and shifts, waterfowl hunters remain - TopicsExpress

Yet despite these declines and shifts, waterfowl hunters remain the primary advocates for waterfowl and wetlands conservation. Some folks just dont realize that hunters dollars support wildlife and environmental conservation more so than any other sources out there. Here is an email for a survey I received last month from the Division of Fish and Wildlife. Dear Waterfowl Hunter: The waterfowl hunting tradition has a long and storied history. That tradition, however, is waning as fewer and fewer hunters are pursuing waterfowl. Nationwide, management agencies face declining hunter numbers, declines in wetland productivity, and a general shift in the politics of hunting and conservation. As hunter numbers decline so does our social relevance and with it the political clout and financial resources for conservation. Yet despite these declines and shifts, waterfowl hunters remain the primary advocates for waterfowl and wetlands conservation. The waterfowl management community in the Atlantic Flyway, which includes the Division of Fish and Wildlife, is focused on maintaining the tradition of waterfowl hunting and finding ways to recruit new hunters while continuing to provide the best quality experience for our existing waterfowl hunters. The attitudes and desires of our constituency, you the hunter, are increasingly important in how we, as managers, set our seasons and try to improve the hunting experience in our respective states. The survey provided in the link below was designed to help measure your desires for regulatory options. Please take the time to give this survey your full attention. This survey is going to hunters who have registered through the Harvest Information Program (HIP) throughout the Atlantic Flyway and the results will assist us in developing a regulatory process that will provide the maximum amount of opportunity, while still ensuring the long-term health of our treasured waterfowl resource. https://youtube/watch?v=JJ3epoLBaNI
