Yezidi Activist to speak at All Souls this Monday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m. Join us! The Yezidis of Sinjar and surrounding areas were attacked by ISIS terrorists in August 2014. Many fled to Mount Sinjar. During this genocidal attempt to exterminate the Yezidi people, many civilians were killed or kidnapped. Background on the crisis will be shared as well as insight into ISIS’ effect on the area. Speakers: Pari Ibrahim left Kurdistan with her family when she was three years old, fleeing attacks by the Saddam Hussein regime. She had lived outside the city of Duhok, and their family settled in the Netherlands. Ms. Ibrahim is currently studying law at the University of Amsterdam. After the ISIS attacks on Sinjar and the Yezidi population in August this year, she founded the Free Yezidi Foundation to help Yezidi civilians in need and raise awareness of the situation. She is a contributing writer for the EzidiPress, an online news source which monitors the situation of Yezidis at home and abroad. This is her first visit to the United States. Next week she will meet with officials at United Nations headquarters as well as representatives of some non-governmental organizations in New York. Pari will visit Kurdistan in the coming months to continue work on her Foundation. Originally from Mystic, CT, David Sklar is the Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq since 2008. He first worked in the KRG Department of Foreign Relations, and later in the Office of the Prime Minister. Free Will Offering A free-will offering will be taken up at the event. Make checks out to “All Souls” with “Yezidi Foundation” in the memo. The Free Yezidi Foundation is dedicated to the memory of those who perished. The Free Yezidi Foundation Orphanage and Post-Trauma Center will be established in the city of Duhok, designed to shelter Yezidi children that lost their parents as a result of ISIS attacks on the town of Sinjar and areas in the Ninevah plains.
