Yikes!! I have a real issue with this statement from Rev. Turner, While we have a right to freedom of speech and freedom of expression, weve got to balance that with a responsibility to be sensitive to how what we say and what we do impacts the lives of those around us. I submit that the first Amendment does not require sensitivity to free speech and expression. As a black man, I understand exactly what the confederate flag represents WHILE also understanding that the freedom to express ones allegiance to that era. I can understand disciplining the students based on the disruption caused to the school BUT this is a slippery slope. Would those same actions be taken toward those 2 students if they had an American flag draped across their shoulders? Lets make this teachable moment about the freedoms we have in this country that were paid for by the blood, sweat and tears of our men and woman in uniform of all colors, creeds and otherwise.
