Yilgarnia Wines provided a wonderful venue to celebrate 2014 at last night’s BAH. Thankyou to all those members who joined us in the final BAH for the year. It was lovely to sit back and reflect on the past year. Thankyou Peg, Peter and Anthony Buxton and Yoko for offering such fantastic food, wine and providing such great service and effort. Peter entertained us with the story of their business going back 50 years to when they first bought their land. Starting off with cattle and sheep it was their move into wildflowers that gave them their real success and business growth. As the demand for wildflowers decreased it was at this point that they tapped into the potential for winemaking in the soils of Yilgarnia. This has been hugely successful with Peg and Peter spending 3 months of the year on the road selling their popular wine. Anthony is the future of Yilgarnia. He operates the day to day business of the Winery calling on his parents from time to time for some cheap labour. Yilgarnia is the geological name for this region of Western Australia which formed more than a million years ago as part of the earths land mass Gondwanaland. The Yilgarnia logo is a fossil from the ancient land. David McKenzie the new manager of the CRC talked to us about the importance of being informed in Disaster Recovery within our computer networks. For us to be aware of how backups are working and making sure our systems are properly setup to withstand viruses and potential invasions. He is welcoming questions on this and would like to work with business’s to help them understand the risks and what they can do to protect themselves and their databases properly. Paris Johansen from Torbay Glass Studio and Trevor Douglas from WA Country Builders were the lucky winners of the draw both taking home bottles of Yilgarnia’s fine wine.
